Getting ready to sing the Engkomia for Easter
Choir Group

The Institute is the first in Sydney to have a Traditional Folk Song Choir Group.

Our first performance was at the 2013 Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Christmas Carols.

Our group meets once a month and more regularly when rehearsing for an event. We are a very social group with a love of Greek Song.

Our repetoire includes Demotik Folk Songs, Rembetika, Island/Mainland Songs, Songs in Dialect (Cappadocia etc), Laika, Traditional Christmas Carols and other Greek songs.

Under the direction of

Vasilios Aligiannis (Folk Song Researcher)

Con Harris (Music Director/Folk Singer)

Michael Giameos (Byzantine Singer)

Susan Liakatos (Singer)

We meet once a month and more if we need to rehearse for a performance.

Explore Greek Dance & Culture Courses

In May of 2014, we kicked off a series of lectures and workshops with a focus on Greek Dance and Culture.

With the support of AHEPA,  we ran a series of informative lectures where participants learnt about various topics on Greek Dance spanning from Ancient times right through to modern day.

The course will continue and expand in 2024 to include some online tutorials and lectures. Watch this space for more info or email us below on greekdancervas@gmail.com

We have currently two participants in the course in 2024.
