Greek Folk Dancers of NSW
Ο ΘΡΑΣΥΒΟΥΛΟΣ
est. 1992
The Greek Folk Dancers of NSW was founded in 1992 under the Instruction of Vasilios Aligiannis.
The Classes of the Greek Folk Dancers of NSW are taught by Vasilios Aligiannis. Associate teacher: Nick Nouragas.
Philosophy
We believe in the preservation of dances, music and costumes in their traditional form.
We believe that the teaching and stage presentation of dances must be based on ethnographic research of the areas or villages presented.
Performances
Our dance group provides performances for community events, social functions, concerts and private functions.
We have both adults and children that perform within our group.
Community & Corporate Events
Our dance group is an active member in the Greek Community. We are closely links with various organisations and not only perform for them but also take part in their events and help with fundraising.
Our group also actively participates in charitable events like Movember, Big Morning Tea, fundraisers for the Lions Clubs, etc.
We also hold our own fundraisers to help those in need. In 2015 we will be organising another canned food and clothing drive for those less fortunate.
We have organised performances for corporate events and also
private lessons in dance at a corporate level.
Lessons & Classes
Private Lessons
There are various classes that run through the week to cater for various levels, interests and of course needs.
Junior classes tend to run early in the evenings, while adult classes run later on. We have a social group, an intermediate group and a advanced performing group which all focuses on various dances and levels.
Lectures & Exhibitions
Our dance Instructors have a series of Lectures available on topics of Greek dance including Ancient Greece and Dance, Medieval Greece and Dance, Greek Folk Costumes, Greek Folk Jewellery, Greek Dance and Improvisation, Regional Dances of Greece, Teaching Greek Dance, etc.
Our lectures are informative and easy to understand either presented in English or Greek. Lectures are all supported with stimulating audio visuals presentations.
We offer organisations the option of holding an exhibition of Greek Folk Costumes.
